Walking


Walking is one of the best ways to discover the area  and there are walks available to suit all abilities and temprements.


From a gentle stroll along the River Ure to an afternoon spent exploring the gradeur of Jerveaux Abbey or the sublime beauty of the follies and hills of Hackfall Woods (once described by Catherine the Great as, "the most beautiful place in the world.") Masham really has it all.

Beer


Masham is renown for its two breweries:


Black Sheep & Theakstons. Book a tour to experience the brewers art and see the magic of brewing at two of the countries finest beer producers.


Once finished, you will get to sample some of the freshest brews in fine surroundings. 


Theakstons is a 3 minute walk away and Black Sheep just a a hundred yards further at 5 minutes.

Historical Sites


The list of easily accessible historical sites from the Apartment is vast. Within walking distance there is Swinton Park and the Druid's Temple.


Slightly further field there is the beautiful Jerveaux Abbey and stunning market town of Ripon complete with its magnificent Cathedral.


For a full day out we highly recommend Middleham Castle, the ancestral home of Richard III; and Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal. 


For those who enjoy exquisite gardens & grand houses, a visit to Newby Hall & gardens is a must.



Eating & Drinking


Masham is blessed with a great range of quality establishments catering to a wide range of palates. 


In addition to the 5 pubs who serve a variety of food and drink in the town, there is the excellent Vennell's restaurant serving the best local produce in sumptuous surroundings.


The town is also served by two top quality butchers, an excellent off-licence (Corks & Cases) showcasing a great range of interesting wines and their own distilled, chai-tea Masham gin.


On the Market Square you will also find fresh ish and chips alongside an olde worlde sweet shop. There really is something for everyone.
